Direct Oil’s top tips for getting cheap heating oil
Keeping your home warm during the winter months is likely to be a substantial chunk of your monthly outgoings. The price you pay for your heating oil delivery is influenced by a whole range of things, like international crude oil prices and supply, so it can be easy to think that you have no control over how much you have to spend.
But, there are some simple things you can do to try and get yourself cheap heating oil. Here are our top tips:
Plan ahead
If you compare domestic heating oil prices in the summer and the winter, you will see that oil tends to be sold for less in the warmer months. The heating oil market is highly seasonal when it comes to demand, and prices reflect this.
If you make your first big purchase in the summer instead of autumn, you could get a cheaper price.
Bulk buy
At Direct Oil we always recommend buying in bulk. This is because the more you order, the cheaper the price will be.
However, keep in mind that you should only fill your tank to around 90% of its capacity to avoid spillage.
Avoid added fees
We know how annoying it can be when companies aren’t clear upfront about how much they are actually going to charge you. This is why we don’t charge anything extra for using debit or credit cards or for delivery costs.
Maintain your tank and boiler
Replacing your tank or boiler isn’t cheap, and taking the necessary steps to look after them properly can keep them working for longer. Getting a more efficient boiler can also save you a significant amount of money each year.
